12th Sunday in Ordinary Time/Te Rātapu Tekau o He Wā Noa
Taken from/inspired by Genesis 21:8-21,Psalm 86:1-10,16-17, Romans 6:1b-11, Matthew 10:24-39, and the ANZPB.
Bidding: Hear our prayer, Lord;
Response: …listen to our cry for mercy.
[from Psalm 86:6]
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
[from Matthew 10:29-31]
Let us pray.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
[ Romans 6:5-7]
Jesus, make us into a community of your resurrection,
unite us in you.
[silence]
Bidding: Hear our prayer, Lord;
Response: …listen to our cry for mercy.
Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
will come and worship before you, Lord;
they will bring glory to your name.
For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.
[Psalm 86:8-10]
Protect and embolden your church, Lord.
Sanctify our worship.
[silence]
Bidding: Hear our prayer, Lord;
Response: …listen to our cry for mercy.
God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”
[Genesis 21:17-18]
Bless your creation, Lord.
Lift up the lowly,
rebuild the world with justice and righteousness.
[silence]
Bidding: Hear our prayer, Lord;
Response: …listen to our cry for mercy.
Holy God, grant us the beginning of wisdom and love to cast out every fear: that we may grow more brave, more ready to hear, more ready to obey; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.
Amen.
