TWP

14th Sunday of Easter/Te Rātapu Tekau mā whā o He Wā Noa

Prayers taken from/inspired by 2 Kings 5:1-14; Psalm 30; Galatians 6:1-16; Luke 10:1-11, 16-20; the ANZPB.

Bidding: Hear, Lord, and be merciful to us;
Response: Lord, be our help.
 [Psalm 30:10]

Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;
                praise his holy name.
 For his anger lasts only a moment,
                but his favour lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
                but rejoicing comes in the morning.

[Psalm 30: 4-5]

Let us pray

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.  Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.  Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load.  Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.

[Galatians 6:1-6]

Lord Jesus, bless our communities;
May we learn to share the burdens of our lives and the lives of others.
Teach us humility and generosity.

[silence]

Bidding: Hear, Lord, and be merciful to us;
Response: Lord, be our help.

Jesus said, “… I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

[Luke 10:18-20]

Jesus Christ, lead your church.
Help us to grow in trust and confidence in you;
guide us with your Spirit

[silence]

Bidding: Hear, Lord, and be merciful to us;
Response: Lord, be our help.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

[Galatians 6:7-9]

We pray for the world

in the face of suffering and injustice,
it is easy to grow weary and despair.
Remind us of the promises of a new creation
and empower your people with hope.

[silence]

Bidding: Hear, Lord, and be merciful to us;
Response: Lord, be our help

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

[Galatians 6:14]

God, you are working still, breaking down and building up; open our eyes to discern your hands so that we may take our place as labourers together with you. Hear this prayer for your love’s sake.
Amen
