22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time/Te Rātapu Rua Tekau mā rua o He Wā Noa

Prayers taken from/inspired by Exodus 3:1-15; Psalm 105:1-6, 23-26, 44b; Romans 12:9-21; Matthew 16:21-28, and the ANZPB

Bidding:Look to the Lord and his strength;
Response: …seek his face always.
[Psalm 105:4]

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.  Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
[Romans 12:9-13]

Jesus, teach us to love one another patiently and sincerely.

[silence]

Bidding:Look to the Lord and his strength;
Response: …seek his face always.

“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
[Exodus 3:5-6]

Heavenly Father, fill your church with awe and reverence;
Inspire us with wonder.

[silence]

Bidding:Look to the Lord and his strength;
Response: …seek his face always.

What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
[Matthew 16:26-27]

We pray for creation, and the people in it. Rescue us from our greed.

[silence]

Bidding:Look to the Lord and his strength;
Response: …seek his face always.

God of unchangeable power, our strength at all times; guard us from all dangers and support us in all difficulties that we may live victoriously now and forever; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
