Join the conversation and host a ‘Te Tiriti 101’ video session with your church in April/May.
Common Grace Aotearoa has extended an invitation to churches across the diocese to participate in 'Te Tiriti 101' video sessions during April and May. These sessions aim to provide a platform for Christians to refresh their understanding or fill knowledge gaps regarding the Treaty of Waitangi.
In endorsing the initiative, Bishop Justin said, "It's crucial for us as Christians to engage with our nation's history, particularly with something as foundational as the Treaty of Waitangi. These sessions offer a fantastic opportunity for us to delve deeper into its significance and implications for our lives today.”

The sessions, consisting of two ninety-minute video segments, will feature respected Christian voices discussing the text of Te Tiriti, its historical context, breaches of the Treaty, and their implications in contemporary society. Participants will have the flexibility to host these sessions in small groups within their churches, creating a conducive environment for discussion and learning.
Hosting these sessions doesn't require extensive preparation. All it takes is a willingness to engage and facilitate meaningful conversations within your community.
Individuals interested in hosting these sessions are encouraged to express their interest and select suitable dates between April 22 and May 31.
Common Grace Aotearoa will provide the necessary video content, while hosts will be responsible for organizing venues, refreshments, and inviting participants.
Can you be a host?
Choose dates for two sessions. These can be anytime between 22 April and 31 May. We recommend a max gap of 2 weeks between the sessions.
Find a venue and organise refreshments. A person's home would be ideal.
Invite people.
Read the leaders' notes before the sessions.
During the sessions, play the videos then lead the group through discussion questions.
