Community comes to fly In Eastbourne!
A windless day didn’t slow down Eastbourne Anglicans’ celebration of Pentecost and Matariki with their local community’s kite-flying festival.
The day dawned blue and clear – a welcome relief after the previous week of heavy rain – but not a puff of blew until 3pm...
But then the giant kites took off, and the tamariki – fresh from crafting kites in our workshop – were never slowed down anyway, as they ran and cycled, pulling their ‘guaranteed to fly’ kites behind them.
And Vicar’s warden Stuart Mossman (inspired by his experience baking pizzas in a pizza oven alongside +Justin at Mission Leaders Family Camp) and his team baked and served pizzas to happy attendees and passers-by, followed by star-shaped cookies aplenty, baked by Parish members. Even our ‘Knit-wits’ knitting group pitched in too, by winding the 15m strings needed to make the kites.
“Everyone’s welcome, this is our gift to you – koha only if you like” we said – “just come as you are. And come the people did – we think we chatted, crafted, fed, connected with, and told our story, to more than 200 people on a sunny winter afternoon. A perfect way to end a day that had begun with a visit from +Ana , who shared our intergenerational Pentecost All-sorts worship service. What a day it was...” says Priest-in-charge, Sue Brown!
