Celebrating Our Transitional Deacons

The rain came down but that didn’t dampen the warm atmosphere as St Bishop Justin ordained seven Transitional Deacons to a full house in the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul.

Transitional Deacons left to right: Rev Miriam Freeman-Plume, Rev Jo Harrington, Rev Maria Kirkland, Rev Matthew Packer, Rev Rebecca Packer, Rev Wendy Smyth and Rev Michelle Tofts

In welcoming everyone, Bishop Justin joked that it was humbling to see so many people there for his birthday. He went on to share a message drawing on the parable of the mustard seed in Matthew 13, that big things often start very small and reminding us that Jesus spent most of his life not in Jerusalem or even Galilee but in Nazareth, where how he spent his time is unknown to us. He thanked the ordinands for responding to the call to lay it all down and be that mustard seed and be that yeast.
