Priest in Charge, St Matthew’s Masterton

  • St Matthew's Masterton 37 Church Street Masterton 5810 New Zealand (map)

The Parish of St Matthews, Masterton is looking for a Priest in Charge

Our Parish has the largest Anglican Church in the Wairarapa. Our mission is to build community with the hope of Jesus. The Parish consists of the central Church with two country Churches located at Tauweru (St Albans) and Upper Plain (St Andrews). Also on site are two Parish Halls.

Associated with the Parish are five non-stipendiary Priests who share the ministry load and are each involved with a variety of community ministries e.g. RSA Padre, Police Chaplain, Rural Chaplaincy, Rest Home support (to name a few).

We have a close association with the Trinity Schools (Hadlow, St Matthews Collegiate and Rathkeale College) and their Chaplains.

Worship styles within the Parish range from traditional to contemporary.

Activities on the St Matthews Church site include:

  • community gardens

  • day shelter for the homeless providing meals/bathroom and laundry facilities

  • youth activities fortnightly

  • daily morning prayer during the working week

  • Aged Care gathering on three days during the week in the Parish Hall

  • Healing Rooms provided on one afternoon per week

  • various Bible Study groups

  • outdoor deck and staging area for musical events.

We have a large four bedroomed Vicarage.

We are looking for someone who is a good communicator and is able to encourage and build on the strong faith-based community that already exists. This person should have an interest in a style of worship that speaks to young families and work as part of a team to reach our community in innovative ways.

This is initially a 0.6FTE position with a possibility of increasing this in the future.

If you sense that God is calling you to St Matthew’s please email Rev. Paul Carey, Deacon for Administration at paul@anglicanmovement.nz or phone 04 472 1057 with your application and CV. You can find out more about us via our website and/or can contact our People’s Warden: pam.bruere@gmail.com .

Our Parish Profile and our Mission Action Plan are available on request.

Applications will close on 20 December 2023
