Vicar – St Thomas Newtown
The Parish of Wellington South is looking for a full-time vicar for this diverse inner-city neighbourhood.
We are looking for a leader of leaders, someone who can hold and lead our vision to become a creatively welcoming community, dreaming of God’s better future for our neighbourhood, and keeping our eyes on Jesus.
We have an existing team of lay leaders, who though capable, passionate and unflappable, are often time poor. Our administrative container is light-weight and agile, which allows us to try new things and have fun together, but sometimes means people or ideas slip through the gaps.
Our parish is young-ish, with a mix of families, with vibrant youth and children’s groups, and young adults and students. We have been a place of sanctuary and hope for our mental health community and those struggling to make sense of their faith or their place in the world.
We have a strong heart to engage meaningfully with our wider Newtown and Berhampore community, which until recently has been expressed most visibly in our weekly Sunday morning cooked breakfasts to build bridges between our church congregation and those doing it tough on our streets.
Our Sunday services meet in the local school hall, and are an intriguing mix of liturgy and easy-going accessibility, with usually around 70 adults, and 20 youth and children (give or take). Recently we have been experimenting with simple prayer services during school holidays, held in our own chapel space.
We would love to have a minister (or ministers) to join what God is doing among us. We are open to full-time or part-time options.
Applications close on Sunday 20 October 2024.
