Thy Kingdom Come 2026

From Ascension Day to Pentecost, Christians around the world will pause for one of the simplest and most ancient prayers of the Church — "Come, Holy Spirit." You're warmly invited to join in.

When: Thursday 14 May – Sunday 24 May 2026 (Ascension to Pentecost)

Where: Wherever you are — at home, at church, on a walk, around a kitchen table.

Theme this year: God with us

---

Thy Kingdom Come is a global, ecumenical wave of prayer that began in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York. It now unites more than a million Christians across nearly 90% of the world's countries and 85 different denominations.

The heart of it is gloriously simple: choose five people in your life — friends, family, neighbours, colleagues — and pray for them every day for eleven days, that they might come to know the love of God in Jesus Christ.

Suggested all-age activities

There's something here for every age and stage. Pick one or pick a few — the only rule is to start.

- Pray for Five. Write down the names of five people you'd love to know Jesus. Carry the list in your wallet, stick it on the fridge, or set a daily reminder on your phone.

- The Knotted String. Tie five knots in a piece of string or cord — one for each person. Wear it on your wrist or keep it in your pocket. A favourite for tamariki and adults alike.

- Plant a seed for each person. Plant five seeds in a pot — one for each of your five — and water them daily with prayer. Once they've grown, give the plant to the person you've been praying for.

- Walk and pray. Take a prayer walk through your neighbourhood. Pray for every street, every school, every home you pass. Push the pram, take the dog, take the kids.

- Make a household prayer wall. Use post-it notes, butcher's paper, or the fridge door. Add names, hopes, and answered prayers as the eleven days go on.

- Light a candle together each evening. A simple rhythm for families: gather, light a candle, name the people you're praying for, and sit in silence for a moment.
