The Payroll Advisor plays a key role in supporting the running of the Diocese by paying stipends, salaries and wages to clergy and employees in mission units and in the Diocesan office.
Principal responsibilities and key result areas
This part-time role reports directly to the Finance Manager working across the Diocese to support mission units in their payroll obligations and care for their employees. The Payroll Advisor is responsible for delivering the monthly Diocesan payroll for 150+ clergy and employees in a highly accurate and timely manner.
The payroll advisor is a self-sufficient and capable individual with experience working with payroll, financial, database or equivalent data-driven systems. They are confident working to tight deadlines and solving problems when they arise and will be responsive to on-the-job training and development where needed. The Payroll Advisor’s work will complement the wider work of the Finance team and will provide support to the team on financial tasks where necessary.
Personal Attributes
Experience operating payroll and finance systems ideally MYOB and Xero.
A sound understanding of the Holidays Act 2003 and its application.
A high level of proficiency working with data, primarily in Excel, is essential.
Outstanding written and oral communications skills
Energy and adaptability. Ability to thrive in a multifaceted and busy work environment through excellent self-management and prioritisation.
A positive attitude and willingness to support the work of the Finance team
A strong personal alignment with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Wellington Diocese.
An understanding of the Anglican ethos and tradition and of the Wellington Diocesan goals. Experience in the not-for-profit sector would be advantageous but not essential.
A people person with excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish networks and utilise external resources to support objectives. A strong oral and written communicator who can communicate to people with clarity and accuracy.
This is a permanent part-time position, 0.5FTE (20 hours per week).
