21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Original prayers, inspired by Ps 84, Eph 6:10-20, John 6:56-69, and Bosco Peters, Collect for Ordinary 21.

A preparation

E te Atua
Tō tātou kaihanga
Whakarongo mai
Me tā mātou īnoi;
Ki a koe te whakamoemiti,
Te korōria

God who created us
Hear us, hear our prayer.
We worship you
To you be all glory.

E te Atua
Ka maringi
ō mātou roimata
mō rātou kua hoki ki tō poho
rātou ki a rātou
Ka hāpai ake ō mātou whakawhētai,
ō mātou īnoi
ō mātou mihi whakanui koremutu.
Āmine

God,
our tears fall
for those who now rest in you
we lift to you
our thanks,
our hopes,
and our unending praise
amen.

Let us pray for the church and the world

E te Atua, loving God
We pray for this world;
Especially the many places
where darkness resides and thrives.
May you be both sun and the shield,
To grow and protect those who need you;
You give the sparrow a home;
And the swallow a nest.
Grant the same to those who,
Due to the weight of human sin
Have no home, or no protection.

Bidding: E te Ariki, build our faith.
Response: Blessed is the one who trusts in you.

E Te Karaiti, we give you thanks for this gathering,
Of those who seek to follow your way.
Bless our everyday ministries,
help us to care for and pray for those who are unlike us.
May your example teach us faithful gentleness,
That we who gather in your name,
might show forth your everlasting light.
Let our love for you create love in others.

Bidding: E te Ariki, build our faith.
Response: Blessed is the one who trusts in you.

E te Wairua Tapu
We thank you for the people we grew up alongside,
And those among whom we live now;
Be present with us still.
May we see our communities truly;
Help us to serve them with love;
Where there may be dissension, strife or hardship,
Where there may be a lack of love for land or place,
Work in us to make us a blessing, not a burden.

Bidding: E te Ariki, build our faith.
Response: Blessed is the one who trusts in you.

E te Tokotoru Tapu
Holy Trinity
Help us to seek your holy courts,
To know your presence among us;
So even when all shifts around us
Our hearts may surely there be fixed
where true joys are to be found.

Amen.
