26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Taken from/inspired by Esther 7:1-6,9-10;9:20-22, Psalm 124, James 5:13-20, Mark 9:38-50 and the ANZPB

Bidding: our help is in the name of the Lord,

Response: the Maker of Heaven and Earth.

Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

[James 5:20]

We lift our communities to you, Father;
those celebrating and struggling.
Be with our families and friends,
our neighbours and enemies.
Show us where we need to be healed
and forgiven.

[silence]

Bidding: Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Response: The Maker of Heaven and Earth.

Lord Jesus, you said:
“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness,
how can you make it salty again?
Have salt among yourselves and be at peace with each other.”

                                                                        [Mark 9:50]
Salt your church with fire;
lead us in truth
and teach us to pray bold prayers.

[silence]

Bidding: Our help is in the name of the Lord,

Response: The Maker of Heaven and Earth.

Holy Spirit, cast your light upon the world;
against all odds and darkness,
we  pray for sorrow to be turned into joy
and mourning into celebration.

[silence]

Bidding: Our help is in the name of the Lord,

Response: The Maker of Heaven and Earth.

God of grace and goodness, you know that by reason of our frailty we cannot but fail;
keep us always under your protection and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
