What to keep & what not to keep
The Province has developed an archives guideline to support parishes with their retention and disposal of documents.
Records should be retained long-term if required by legislation, then transferred to archives; others can be disposed of after set periods. Key documents include parish registers, legal, property, financial, and organizational records, with guidelines on what to keep or discard. Regular assessment, consistent naming, and secure backups are essential, ensuring important history is preserved and protected from loss.
