Mark Huang
I was brought up in a Christian family, and in 1996, shortly after moving from Taiwan to New Zealand at the age of fifteen, I committed my life to Jesus. After completing my degree in dentistry, I began practicing in Whanganui in 2005. Three years later, I married my wife, Carol, and together we are blessed with three school-aged children.
In response to Jesus' teaching that "it is more blessed to give than to receive." I have sought to give generously of my time- supporting church ministries and volunteering regularly at my children's schools. Although I love meeting people, I am at times saddened by how secular our society has become. When I meet those without faith, my heart often goes out to them. On several occasions, I have found myself sharing my faith and encouraging others to come to know Jesus.
One of the ministries that has been especially meaningful to me is leading the Whanganui Chinese Fellowship. The Fellowship meets weekly for worship and Bible study, and it has been a joy to witness individuals come to faith and grow in their relationship with God. I long to see more lives transformed through knowing Jesus.
About three years ago, I sensed that a bilingual priest would help the Fellowship flourish and support our church’s mission to grow the body of Christ. Around that time, I felt God inviting me to step into that calling. The words from Luke 10:2 spoke directly to my heart: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” After much prayer and discernment, God’s calling has remained firm and continue to grow stronger.
Although I have experienced moments of doubts, God has always been patient and faithful. Through scriptures and songs, He has continually reminded me that His calling for my life is perfect and part of His wonderful plan. As 1 Peter 5:2 exhorts, “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers- not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be.”
Today, I choose to respond to that calling with joy. I trust my faithful Father in heaven to lead, guide, and provide for the ministry to which He has called me.
