Lay Licence for Anointing with Oil

The Vicar/PIC/Lay Minister in Charge makes a request to the Bishop’s Office with their recommendation.

After confirmation from the Bishop, the Bishop’s Office sends out application paperwork to the Vicar/PIC/Lay Minister in Charge.

When application paperwork has been returned to and checked by the Bishop’s Office, the licence is produced and sent to Vicar/PIC/Lay Minister in Charge to present within a liturgical setting, to include commissioning and prayer for licencee.

Other Licenced Lay Ministry

No layperson should be applying directly to the Bishop’s Office.

Bishop’s lay licences, other than for Anointing with Oil, are only now intended to apply for lay people appointed to lead a mission unit – such appointments are made either directly by the Bishop or via the Board of Nomination.

For lay ministry other than Lay Minister in Charge or Anointing with Oil, the Vicar/PIC/Lay Minister in Charge and governing body of a place of ministry may make appointments under the terms of the Diocesan Lay Ministry Canon.
