  • Why are stories important?
We publish stories about God’s goodness and how He is working in and through us. This creates a sense of identity around which our people can rally, which encourages the sense of family, and encourages us to engage in God’s mission.

    What outcome do we want?
Stories show us what could be – “if I can see it, I can be it” – when we show what it looks like to be building God’s kingdom together, others will want to be part of the adventure. This will point people to our Movement values of Discipleship, Family and our Biblical call to prioritize the least, the last and the lost.

    What’s a story?
Focus on the ‘why’ and the ‘what’ can come later. While we’re very happy to ‘massage’ your story into shape, we do need a bit to get us started. An intro, a quote or two, the details, and who to contact.

An example of this could be starting a community meal. Instead of saying x church held a community dinner on Friday night and 20 people came. Say,

X parish found a creative way to respond to God’s invitation and provide hospitality to people finding life tough. They held a community lunch at the local park and were amazed at the conversations they had.

Mary Smith said, “Several of us had talked and prayed about how to connect with the people hanging about at the park in the middle of town. The lunches worked a treat. They were simple and relaxed us and our new friends.”

Jeannie says they are deciding on what next steps to take with the people they’ve met at the lunches. “God’s doing something here. We’re excited about what’s ahead.”

Some of the ideas include budgeting advice, sewing tuition and a new play group.

X church holds the lunches every Wednesday. Five volunteers make the lunch and collect baking that’s made by other parish members.

Please send us pictures, too! Make them landscape and as high resolution as possible.

The deadline for publication in our News for our Movement email is Monday evening each week.

    Send your story to: communications@anglicanmovement.nz
