18th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Prayers taken from/inspired by Hosea 11:1-11; Psalm 107:1-9 43; Colossians 3:1-11; Luke 12:13-21, and the ANZPB.
Bidding: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
Response: His love endures forever. [Psalm 107:1-9, 43]
Let us pray.
Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
[Colossians 3:1-4]
Merciful Christ, in whom we are united, lead our communities into new life.
[silence]
Bidding: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
Response: His love endures forever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south
[Psalm 107:2-3]
Lord Jesus, the church is yours.
Remind us of your story and ours.
[silence]
Bidding: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
Response: His love endures forever.
…He said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed;
life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
[Luke 12:15]
Righteous Judge, we pray for your world.
Save us from our selfishness and greed, raise up the oppressed.
[silence]
Bidding: Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
Response: His love endures forever.
God of all the earth, you have given us the heritage of this good and fertile land;
grant that we may so respect and use it that others may thank us for what we leave to them;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
