Prayers inspired by original prayers; Hosea 1:2-10, Ps 85 Col 2:6-15,(16-19) Luke 11:1-13
[We gather]
E Ihowa o ngā mano
Whakarongo mai ki tā mātou īnoi,
Kia noho rātou kua ngaro
Kei roto i a Koe.
God of all strength
Hear our prayer.
That those who are now lost to us
Are found at rest in you.
[We pray for the Church]
E te Atua
Bless Your church
Made up, as it is, of people
Who have strayed from you,
Who are quick to flee-
And slow to return.
Despite this, Your Church gives us a place;
Bless our ministries, however humble.
Help us to bring in others who need Your grace,
Help us too to go out to be with others who need Your grace.
May Your church truly be a place where:
Love and faithfulness meet together;
righteousness and peace kiss each other.
[Bidding and response]
Show us your unfailing love, o Lord,
and grant us your salvation.
[We pray for the world]
E te Ariki, Lord Jesus
You told us:
“Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Lord, we ask for Your peace,
In our hearts and in the world,
In Gaza, In Darfur, in Syria, in Ukraine,
In all places where hatred seems to rule.
Lord we seek that which is hidden from so many:
Comfort for the lonely;
Wisdom for the misguided;
Food for the hungry;
Love for the unloved.
E te Ariki, huakina te tatau.
May Your Holy Spirit give us the courage to knock,
That the door may be opened.
Show us your unfailing love, o Lord,
and grant us your salvation.
[We pray for our communities and for our own needs.]
Holy Spirit
We ask that You guide and strengthen those
Who look after our communities;
Those who serve others
as part of our tapestry of social services;
our people who strive to bring hope, love & compassion
to those who need it most.
Bless them, fill them when they are emptied out.
Guide them in places of heartache and danger;
Speak gently into the hearts of those who can support such endeavours
to do so.
Be with us in own homes and communities;
Remind us to whom we belong.
Call us back to God when again, we stray.
Show us your unfailing love, o Lord,
and grant us your salvation.
