Christ the King (or The Reign of Christ) Sunday/Ko te Karaiti te Kīngī

34th Sunday in Ordinary Time/Te Rātapu Toru Tekau mā whā o He Wā Noa

Taken from/inspired by Jeremiah 23:1-6, Luke 1: 68-79, Colossians 1:11-20, Luke 23:33-43 and the ANZPB

Bidding: The Lord Almighty is with us;
Response: the God of Jacob is our fortress.
[from Psalm 46:7]

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
    and do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved
    and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
    The Lord Our Righteous Savior.
[Jeremiah 23:5-6]

Let us pray.

Lord Jesus, guide our communities.
…shine on those living in darkness
    and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.
[from Luke 1:79]

[silence]

Bidding: The Lord Almighty is with us;
Response: the God of Jacob is our fortress.

…He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
[Colossians 1:13-14]

Lord Jesus,
Strengthen your church;
may we grow in love and trust

[silence]

Bidding: The Lord Almighty is with us;
Response: the God of Jacob is our fortress.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
[Colossians 1:15-17]

We pray for the world.

[silence]

Bidding: The Lord Almighty is with us;
Response: the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Living Christ, you are risen from the dead. Love reigns! You are stronger than death; raise our eyes to see you as the new day dawns; for the glory of your holy name.

Amen.
