Remembering Reverend Doctor Whatarangi Winiata

Kua hinga te tōtara o te wao nui a Tāne.
A great tōtara tree of the forest of Tāne has fallen.

The Anglican Diocese of Wellington mourns with the people of Ngāti Raukawa, as we honour of the passing of the Reverend Doctor Whatarangi Winiata.

Anglican Bishop of Wellington Justin Duckworth and Assistant Bishop Anashuya Fletcher attended the tangi for Whatarangi Winiata, to be present at his tangihanga with whānau, and the countless he influenced.

“We give thanks for the life and faith of Whatarangi Winiata. A man of faith and determination.

May God bless him and keep him and comfort those of us who mourn his passing.

The Diocese of Wellington mourns with his whānau and we give thanks to God for the extraordinary gift of his life to this church and to this nation.”

The Right Reverend Justin Duckworth  —  Anglican Bishop of Wellington
