Prayers inspired by: original prayers: Psalm 95; Exodus 17:1-7; Romans 5:1-11; John 4:5-42

 An acknowledgment

 Haere mai tātou, kia koropiko, kia tuohu:
kia tukua ngā turi ki te aroaro o Ihowa, o tō tātou Kaihanga.
Ko ia hoki tō tātou Atua;
    ko tātou Tana iwi e hepara ai,
    ngā hipi a Tōna ringa.

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
 for he is our God
    and we are the people of His pasture,
    the flock under His care.

Engari, ahakoa te harikoa
Ka tangi tonu mō rātou kua ngaro ki Tōna ringa
Ki tua o te ārai.
Rātou ki a rātou
    Tātou ki a tātou.

In the midst of joy
We remember those who have departed
May Your light be with we who remain in this living world.

[Bidding and response]

God of us all; grant us your living water now and always

For the Church.

E te Karaiti
We are Your body in this world.
We fail and fall, and struggle to be what you need us to be.
And yet we know: “While we were yet sinners you died for us.”

Grant that take hold of this grace.
Bless our ministries, that in all we do we point the way to You.
Strengthen us to recognise and acknowledge our weaknesses in Your church;
Strengthen us to set our hearts on Your redemption;
to know how to ask for your forgiveness
when we fall short of what Your body should be.

God of us all; grant us your living water now and always

We pray for the world and for this place.

E te Wairua Tapu
Holy Spirit,
You bear witness throughout the world;
to war, to fear, and to a lack of love;
darkness beyond reckoning.
Engari ko ngā mahi tohu te rite, te tumanako.
But we have hope in Your saving work.

Soften the hearts
of world leaders,
and of our decision makers here at home,
that they may, in this time of repentance,

Learn from Jesus,
Who told the Samaritan Woman everything she ever did;
Who stayed in Samaria, a land unloved by His own people;
But of whom the Samaritans said:
 “we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world!”

May those with power over life and death
Know this truth.

God of us all; grant us your living water now and always

We pray for our communities and for our own needs.

God of life
Bless us, in our communities, our families, and in our homes
We lift to you our needs, our aches and our hopes.
Let Your water
become in us a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
And this week,
may we remember the beginning of Christ’s journey
to the Cross, the pathway to our redemption.

God of us all; grant us your living water now and always

Amen.
