Prayers - Sunday 26th October

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time/Te Rātapu Rua Tekau mā ono o He Wā Noa

Prayers taken from/inspired by Joel 2:23-32; Psalm 65; 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 16-18; Luke 19:9-14, and the ANZPB.

Bidding: You who answer prayer,
Response:  to you all people will come.
[from Psalm 65:2]

Let us pray.
“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm[a]—
my great army that I sent among you.
 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
and you will praise the name of the Lord your God,
who has worked wonders for you;
never again will my people be shamed.
[Joel 22: 25-26]

Lord Jesus, may our communities flourish under your care;
give us our daily bread.

Bidding: You who answer prayer,
Response:  to you all people will come.

Jesus said,  “…all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
[Luke 18:14b]

Lord,  may your church grow in humility,
reflecting the tenderness of your Son.
[silence]

Bidding: You who answer prayer,
Response:  to you all people will come.

I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.
 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
 I will show wonders in the heavens
and on the earth,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved…
[Joel 2:28-32a]

We pray for creation; lift up the oppressed, Lord,
and reveal your glory.

Jesus our Lord, you have taught us that judgement begins at the house of God; save us from our self-satisfaction, rigidity and corruption, so that we may stand ready to do your will; for the glory of your holy name.
