Prayers - Sunday 12 October

TWP

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time/Te Rātapu Rua Tekau mā ono o He Wā Noa

Prayers taken from/inspired by Jeremiah 29:1,4-7; Psalm 66:1-13; 2 Timothy 2:8-15; Luke 17:11-19, and the ANZPB.

Bidding: Praise our God, all peoples,
Response: let the sound of his praise be heard.
  [from Psalm 66:8]

Let us pray.

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce.  Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
[Jeremiah 29: 4-7]

Jesus, we pray for our communities;
show us the good that is here
and places of need.

[silence]

Bidding: Praise our God, all peoples,
Response: let the sound of his praise be heard.

Praise our God, all peoples,
    let the sound of his praise be heard;
 he has preserved our lives
    and kept our feet from slipping.
  For you, God, tested us;
    you refined us like silver.
  You brought us into prison
    and laid burdens on our backs.
  You let people ride over our heads;
    we went through fire and water,
    but you brought us to a place of abundance.
[Psalm 66:8-12]

Heavenly Father, may your church reflect your image
and embody your steadfastness. You alone preserve us.
[silence]

Bidding: Praise our God, all peoples,
Response: let the sound of his praise be heard.

If we died with him,
    we will also live with him;
 if we endure,
    we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
    he will also disown us;
 if we are faithless,
    he remains faithful,
    for he cannot disown himself.

We pray for the world; you will not abandon it. You are faithful. You are just.

[silence]

Bidding: Praise our God, all peoples,
Response: let the sound of his praise be heard.

God of compassion, deepen and increase our love for you so that we may leave behind the sins from which you have redeemed us, and serve you in perfect freedom. Hear this prayer for your love’s sake.

Amen
