Extending chaplaincy care to Victoria University’s CBD campus

Students in the city can now find good coffee, a listening ear, prayer, a peaceful place to study and catch up with friends at Anglican Chaplaincy’s new space on Victoria University’s Pipitea Campus.

This is possible after Victoria University / Te Herenga Waka provided Chaplaincy VUW with room MZ20 on the mezzanine floor of Rutherford House in the University’s Pipitea Campus on Bunny St, Wellington.

The new chaplaincy space – Te Puna Karaiti helps the chaplaincy team to provide pastoral support, prayer and community for all students and staff, regardless of background.

They also host prayers every Monday at 12.30pm and Wednesday 8.30am during term time.

International chaplain Andrew Lim says, “I'm looking forward to extending the Chaplaincy's ministry to students and staff at the Pipitea Campus and the law school.

“We'll be here to encourage greater awareness of God's presence, proclaim and demonstrate his goodness and love for us all, and provoke conversations about life’s meaning and purpose," says Andrew.

Te Puna Karaiti will be officially blessed and opened this coming Friday at 9.30am — Mike Ross (head of Te Kawa a Māui / The School of Māori Studies), and the Rev Māmari Stephens will bless the space, and morning tea will follow.

As well as the new Rutherford House space, they also run a lively programme of activities and events out of Ramsey House at 8 Kelburn Parade, including a student café, worship services and prayer meetings, a theological library, potluck dinners and open-mic nights!
