Brooklyn Twilight Festival Returns

Last Saturday, Brooklyn Anglicans revived the Brooklyn Twilight Festival for the first time since 2009.

Over 5,000 people attended the festival, smashing the expectations of the organisers. Festival Director Rev Scottie Reeve said, “This was a key moment to help lift the mana of our community, and a great chance to show how much the local church cares for this being a great neighbourhood to live in.” 

Brooklyn Anglicans (www.brooklynanglicans.nz) uses the proceeds from their community thrift shop and re-fillery Two Todman (www.twotodman.co.nz) to distribute to community groups. However this year they chose to put those funds towards the costs of running the Twilight Festival, working alongside several local community groups to re-start the festival for the first time in 13 years.  

The festival was MCed by Karen O’Leary from Wellington Paranormal and the Paddy Gower Show, with performers including Anika Moa, Ingrid & The Ministers, and Newtown Rocksteady. There were also performances from some of our own Anglican whānau including Gillian and Mark Henderwood and Rob Whelan.  

Alongside two stages featuring over 60 performers, there were over 50 stalls and food-trucks as well including our own Common Good Coffee truck being run by Rev Paul Fletcher and Noah Schneider.  

The festival was made possible by the hard work of Brooklyn Community Centre, Vogelmorn Bowling Club, and donations from a number of groups including Wellington City Council, New Zealand Community Trust, Pub Charity, the Vogelmorn Foundation, and the BRC Trust. Generous support was also received by 1852 Pub & Kitchen, Kennard’s Hire, and Happy Hire.
