Archdeacons Update

We are pleased to welcome Billy Rowe to the Archdeacons (AD) team, following her appointment from 1 February this year. Billy joins Gendy Thomson, Stephen King, Martin Robinson, Scottie Reeve, Mel McKenzie, and Guy Benton, bringing additional depth and capacity to the diocesan leadership team.

The addition of Billy strengthens the team’s ability to walk alongside parishes and leaders as we seek to grow as a transformative movement of local faith communities.

Together with the Bishops, the Archdeacons share responsibility for stewarding different branches of the diocesan vision tree, aligned with the Diocese of Wellington’s Growth Areas. Each AD brings particular gifting, passion, and relevant experience, enabling focused leadership across ministry development, pastoral support, mission, and governance. This collaborative model helps ensure our vision is lived out locally, while remaining deeply connected to the wider Anglican Movement.

For example, while the Bishops and many of the Archdeacons team have been part of church plants, Scottie and Marty are particularly focussed on the Church Planting branch because of the expertise that they have developed through Catch Network.

Similarly, Guy and Billy bring passionate energy around parish flourishing. Stephen leads the intercultural communities branch, and so on...

The vision tree branches (A Just Church, At Home in This Land, Intercultural Communities, Edge Communities, Parish Flourishing and Church Planting) are held across the team according to individual gifting, passion, and relevant experience, enabling focused leadership while maintaining a shared and coherent vision.

By holding these areas collaboratively, the Archdeacons support clergy and local faith communities in mission, discipleship, leadership development, and faithful innovation across diverse contexts.

More information about the Diocese’s Growth Areas can be found under Our Growth Areas on the Wellington Diocese page. Further details about each Archdeacon are available on the Archdeacons team page.
