Aotearoa Music Legend at St Hilda’s, Island Bay
Wellington music lovers are in for a special evening when legendary New Zealand songwriter Wayne Mason and brother Paul bring an intimate acoustic show to St Hilda’s Church.
Best known for the iconic song Nature, Mason wrote one of the most celebrated songs in Aotearoa music history. Originally recorded by The Fourmyula and later covered by The Mutton Birds, Nature was voted ‘Best New Zealand Song of the 20th Century’ by NZ songwriters.
Mason was also a founding member of The Warratahs, writing their first hit Hands of My Heart and helping shape the band’s distinctive sound.
For this Island Bay performance, Wayne will be joined by his brother Paul Bowers-Mason, an Anglican Priest based in Taranaki on double bass and vocals. Together, the Mason brothers deliver an acoustic, story-driven performance featuring songs from Wayne’s long career along with yarns from life on the road and the stories behind the music.
The concert takes place at the award-winning St Hilda’s Church on Wellington’s south coast on Saturday March 21 at 7.30pm.
A food truck and drinks will be available, and the Number 1 bus to Island Bay stops right outside. This is a rare chance to hear a true Kiwi songwriting legend up close.
