Al Ahli Hospital updates us on Gaza situation
The conflict in the Holy Land (Gaza), has been on many people’s minds these last couple of weeks. Anglican Missions have been checking in with their partners at Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City who provide free medical care to the poorest of the poor, with a particular focus on refugees, women and children. Despite the current challenges Al Ahli is continuing to serve their impoverished neighbours every day and act as “a haven of peace and hope in the middle of one of the world’s most troubled areas.”
The Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, the Most Rev. Hosam Naoum, released a press release last night stating that “…Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza has been on the frontlines of these relief efforts, becoming a beacon of hope to those trying to remain alive under such dire circumstances.”
With support from our COVID-19 appeal last year, Anglican Missions were able to fund 143 people to receive free healthcare at Al Ahli Hospital during 2020. One of which was the child below.
Anglican Missions thanks Anglican Movement for all their support throughout 2020’s COVID-19 appeal. “In Gaza the health system was already facing serious problems of shortages of medicines, and the medical teams working through the escalation have already had a year of working through the pandemic,” said the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Anglican Missions asks our movement to join them in praying for the hospital staff at Al Ahli Hospital as they continue to respond to this current conflict.
“Your generous support helps us to continue to be a beacon of light and hope to our devastated community. We are tired, but we cannot give up; there is much work still to do.”
The Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, the Most Revd Hosam Naoum, shared the below prayer:
“Almighty and Everlasting God: Our days are in your hands; we lift up all those in the Holy Land who are victims of violence and injustice, that you might empower your Church to bring healing to the wounded, relief to the suffering, and comfort to those who mourn; we pray also that you would soften the hearts of all those involved in the recent conflicts, that they would be led to work for justice and lasting peace in the land where your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ first came to bring hope and abundant life to all people; these things we ask in his Holy Name.
