200 fill St Hilda’s for EP Release Show

St Hilda's Anglican Church in Island Bay was packed on Sunday night to hear new material from Karel Van Helden from his new EP, Child.

With a seven-piece band, Karel entertained the 200-strong audience eager to hear  Karel’s honest songs. Those familiar with Karel’s material were not disappointed as he mixed old and new and some beautiful covers such as U2’s “Still haven’t found what I’m looking for”, Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody” and, Whakaria Mai”.

Karel is a member of St Tom’s in Newtown and a University Chaplain at Victoria University.

Opening for Karel was Wellington Blues legend Dave Murphy. Who performed several covers and original songs packed with poetic beauty and gospel roots.

Those in attendance were treated to a rich and beautiful night and were generous in applause.

Karel’s EP, “Child” is now available through popular streaming platforms.
