23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Original prayers, inspired by Ps 125, Prov 22:1-2, Mark 7:24-37 and Rob Ruha, hei karakia iti mō te Kiingi.

An approach

E te Runga Rawa
Whakatata mai
Ki a mātou
E koropiko nei ki a koe

The one who is highest of all
Come closer now,
We worship you.

Hei tangi

Tērā te marama ka mahuta i te pae
Tangi whakaroro ana,
Pā mai te aroha mehe naihi haea
Nāhau rā Te Kiingi i hohoki ai te roimata
Aue - e maringi nei mehe wai ki te ipo
Moe mai i T’Ariki

There the moon rises above the horizon
For those who weep,
Struck by grief, keen as a knife.
Kiingi Tuheitia has returned to you,
And his people weep for him, as for a beloved.
May he, and all others who have passed on,
rest in you.

Tēnei te īnoi atu ki a koe
Kia uwhia mai o manaakitanga nunui
I runga ki te Ariki hou o te Kiingitanga.
Hear also our prayer,
That your blessing be upon
the new Ariki of the Kiingitanga.

Let us pray for the church and the world

E te Atua, loving God
We pray for the places in this world
Where the sceptre of the wicked is seen
Surround those who need and love you
Like the mountains of Jerusalem.
Help those who strive for righteousness,
To use their hands and minds for good.

Bidding: We lift our prayers to you.  Response: Hear us, o Lord.

E te Ariki [Lord Jesus],
You showed us what it truly is to love,
Even to love those whom our hearts reject.
You show us a path to us, your Church,
Whereby the divided can be united.

Bless all our ministries
for old and for young;
for the imprisoned, for the free
for those at sea, and those on land,
for the sick and for the well,
for the single, for the coupled
for the noisy, for the quiet.

Help us to walk that path together towards your justice and mercy,
For your name’s sake.

Bidding: We lift our prayers to you.
Response: Hear us, o Lord.

Let us pray for our communities

E te Wairua Tapu [Holy Spirit]
We thank you for our communities;
In times of hardship, of tension,
Even of confusion,
Help us to bind together,
To help one another,
For new growth to come forth.

These prayers we lift to you,
In the name of Jesus, our redeemer,
and the one who calls us together.

Amen.
