Sunday 19 January 2025
2nd Sunday of the Epiphany
Words taken from/inspired by Isaiah 62:1-5, Psalm 36:5-10, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, John 2:1-11, and the ANZPB.
Bidding: You are the fountain of life;
Response: the light by which we see.
Let us pray.
How precious is your unfailing love, O God!
All humanity finds shelter
in the shadow of your wings.
[Psalm 36:7]
Draw our communities together, Father.
Reveal our neighbours to us;
sustain us with your new wine.
[silence]
You are the fountain of life;
the light by which we see.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
[1 Corinthians 12:4-6]
Build up your church, Lord Jesus.
Grant us the gifts of your Spirit
and cultivate them among us.
[silence].
You are the fountain of life;
the light by which we see.
Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your justice like the ocean depths.
[Psalm 36:5-6a]
Creation cries out, O Lord.
Reveal your love to those facing injustice, violence and disaster.
You will not remain silent.
[silence]
You are the fountain of life;
the light by which we see.
We pray you, Jesus, take the old water, our busy, conscientious lives, and turn them into gospel wine, that everyone may see your life and thirst;
Hear this prayer for your name’s sake.
Amen.
