A preparation
E te Atua o te maungārongo
whakatata mai rā
God of deep peace
draw near to us now.
E te Atua o te pūaroha
ūkuia o mātou roimata
mō rātou kua mene atu ki tō aroha.
Rātou ki a rātou.
God of unqualified love
wipe away our tears
for those who have been gathered
into your love.
Whakarongo mai ki a mātou, te hunga ora,
ki ō mātou whakawhētai, whakanui hoki.
Hear us, your living witnesses,
Hear our thanksgiving and worship.
Hui e tai ki ē.
As we unite before you.
Let us pray for the birth of our church and for its work today.
E te Ariki [Lord Jesus]
You showed us what it truly is to love.
Love one another as I have loved you, you said.
The hardest commandment of all.
You sent us your spirit, our companion;
your flame became our flame -
your breath our breath.
You sent your spirit -
to inspire, instruct and guide us to love;
that we might demonstrate that love to all;
that your love might catch and burn in the hearts of all.
May this love be embodied as your church.
Bidding: For your spirit and your resurrection life e te Atua [o God]
Response: we give you thanks and praise. Areruia [Alleluia].
E te Ariki [Lord]
who are we,
that you unleash this force of love
in us and through us?
Help us
to love truly;
to build your church of love,
not a mere monument to our own selves.
Help us to know the difference.
Bidding: For your spirit and your resurrection life e te Atua [o God]
Response: we give you thanks and praise. Areruia [Alleluia].
Let us pray for the world
E te Wairua Tapu [Holy Spirit]
Throughout our world,
especially where darkness seems strong,
guide those who hold power,
and those who hold no power,
to act in love; to choose love.
May we, and they, know your presence,
And reach for your peace.
Bidding: For your spirit and your resurrection life e te Atua [o God]
Response: we give you thanks and praise. Areruia [Alleluia].
