Volunteer with Prison Chaplaincy
Do you have a passion for the last, the least and the lost? Looking for an opportunity to serve?
Tira Tūhāhā Prison Chaplaincy Aotearoa are looking for chaplaincy volunteers to support our prison chaplains in providing spiritual pastoral care to the tāne at Rimutaka Prison. We are looking for people who can give around 3-4 hours per week (one afternoon or morning) and one Sunday church service per month.
What you’ll need – a compassionate heart and a great listening ear for people from all backgrounds and beliefs, experience at taking small group services (or the confidence to learn), the support of your church community and some solid Ministry experience behind you. The desire and ability to incorporate Te Reo Māori and having Te Ao Māori awareness and ability to use in your mahi is also important. A basic understanding of the impact of trauma, mental health and addictions for people in prison would also be helpful.
If you’re interested in exploring this with us please email or phone Helen Topham to explore this special opportunity. You’ll also have the support of a team of passionate chaplains who would love you to join us in this rewarding Ministry.
