Stories of the land and mana whenua - Environmental degradation from colonisation

This is organised by the Te Hui Amorangi ki te Upoko o te Ika Kahui Rangatahi, the Family Centre, and Common Grace Aotearoa. The aim is to encourage friendships between Anglican young adults in Tikanga Pākehā and Tikanga Māori in the region of Greater Wellington, Wairarapa and Whanganui because we don't often get a chance to hang out.

We'll be hosted at Matau Marae just outside Levin. There will be discussions about Te Tiriti and Te Taiao, learning in particular about the story of the local lake which has suffered significant pollution following colonisation. 

This event is free, and support with transport is available.

Speakers will include experts on the impact of colonisation on the local environment, including oral history researcher and author Rachael Selby (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Huia and Ngāti Pareraukawa); Pātaka Moore (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Pareraukawa); and Dean Wilson (Muaūpoko, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Apa Ki Te Rā Tō, Rangitaane Ki Wairau, Ngāti Kuia, Te Arawa)  the Kaiwhakahaere Taiao for Muaūpoko Tribal Authority. We will also have panel discussions about Te Tiriti, Te Taiao, faith, and how people are seeking to honour the Treaty in their church and communities.
