Submissions on the Treaty Principles Bill are now open

Common Grace Aotearoa have resources to equip church communities to have their say on the Treaty Principles Bill.

A truthful, gracious and prophetic voice is needed now more than ever to protect the integrity of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Even if this bill never becomes law, the conversations about it will influence how many people view the Treaty. We can help to ensure the conversation is truthful and compassionate.

Churches have two options available to gather submissions:

Option 1)

  • Run a 90-minute workshop. Gather to watch a video that includes:

    • A refresher on what Te Tiriti o Waitangi says

    • An introduction to 'Treaty Principles'

    • An outline of what the Treaty Principles Bill proposes and how we believe it does not align with Te Tiriti

    • How to have your say

    • Time for people to write their own submission.

Option 2)

Gather submissions at a Sunday service: Use our 5-minute video and submission guide, and invite your faith community to make a submission during or after a Sunday service.

For either option, all the resources you need are at commongrace.nz/tpbgathersubmissions.

Submissions can be made until the 7th of January. However, because many people will be on holiday during that time, Common Grace recommends gathering submissions between now and 14 December.

Let’s do it!
