Aotearoa-Wide Prayer for Our Tamariki and Rangatahi

Sunday 25 May, 5 pm — A Call to Prayer

Communities across Aotearoa are being invited to unite in a powerful, nationwide moment of prayer for the next generation.

On Sunday, 25 May at 5 pm, the invitation is to gather—on hilltops, mountain summits, high ground, or significant places of whenua—to worship and pray for our tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people).

This event, simply called “A Call to Pray,” is a grassroots invitation to churches, families, youth groups, and individuals across the motu to lift our young people to God in prayer. As Youth Week (19–25 May) draws to a close, this is an opportunity to end with hope and intercession, calling on God's presence and power for the future of our nation.

Why Are We Praying?

Because our tamariki and rangatahi are a gift. They are creative, passionate, curious, energetic, social, and full of potential. They bring fresh ideas, deep questions, contagious joy, and bold hope to our communities. They are already leading, shaping culture, and blessing the world around them.

We pray because we believe in them—and even more, we believe in the God who created them, loves them deeply, and calls them into a life of purpose and connection.

We are praying for a fresh move of God’s Spirit among our young people in Aotearoa. We’re praying that they would encounter the transforming love of Jesus, and know that they are seen, known, and chosen by their Creator. We’re asking God to call them into deeper relationship, to awaken a hunger for truth, beauty, justice, and love.

We long for each young person to know:

  • That they belong—in their whānau, in their community, in God’s family.

  • That they have value—not because of what they achieve, but because of who they are.

  • That they are safe and loved—held by a God who never lets go.

  • That their voices, dreams, and stories matter.

We pray for laughter, for lightness, for joy and peace to surround them. We pray that the whisper of God’s voice would rise above the noise of devices, media, pressure, and comparison. And we pray that the Church would be a place where young people thrive, where generations are woven together, and where Jesus is at the centre.

Let’s lift up our tamariki and rangatahi with hearts full of hope. Let’s bless them in prayer and believe for all that God has in store for them.

What Can You Do?

  • Join us in prayer on Sunday 25 May at 5pm. Head to a significant place near you—a hill, lookout, or sacred space—and pray with others.

  • Spread the word in your church, school, or community. Invite families, young people, and elders to join in.

  • Use the curated Spotify playlist filled with worship songs to help you centre your heart and lift God’s name as you pray.

  • Pray intentionally for freedom, hope, belonging, and joy for our tamariki and rangatahi—voices louder than devices and noise.

Worship to Lift Our Hearts

Whether you're praying alone or in a group, let worship lead the way. Songs like “Jesus What a Beautiful Name,” “I Speak Jesus,” “Holy Forever,” “Whakaaria Mai,” and “He Tapu te Ariki” are included to help create a sacred space of reflection and power.

This is more than an event. It’s a collective act of love, hope, and faith. Join us as we pray for a generation that needs to know God’s presence more than ever. Let's be the people who cry out on their behalf.

Mark your calendar: Sunday 25 May, 5pm. Let’s go to the high places and lift our prayers to heaven.
