Global Response funds allow Fiji project to expand

Michael Hartfield, the National Director of Anglican Missions, came to a meeting of Anglican Centre staff and shared the latest news from our Global Response – hot of the press via text message from his office!  As of today, our diocesan campaign to support four overseas projects in response to the COVID-19 pandemic had received over $42,000 – and for one of the projects, this means they can achieve more than they were hoping to achieve.

Bishop Henry Bull of Fiji told us via the campaign video that in his episcopal area, market closures due to the pandemic have significantly reduced the income of his communities.  The campaign aimed to supply tools to parishes so farmers could borrow them and plant crops that would generate income, and to provide grocery packs to those in the most immediate need.  Now, thanks to our fundraising complementing an existing Anglican Missions campaign, that programme will extend to Tonga and will see Anglican youth travelling into communities to assess the exact needs, and determine how to get the best support to them.

Michael addressed the Anglican Centre staff meeting with gratitude and joy – not just for the generosity of our people, but also for the opportunity to build on the relationship with our diocese in the wake of the pandemic that will lead to exciting new ways to do and support mission, as Anglican Missions completes its “first hundred years, and enters its second hundred years!”
