Vacancy - St Mark’s Carterton

PRIEST-IN-CHARGE, ST MARK’S, CARTERTON

St Mark's church in Carterton is a family-friendly parish that loves to worship the Lord and to meet the challenges of the ever-changing world around us. As part of reviewing our Mission Action Plan, we are currently undertaking a process of prayerful discernment in order to discover what God wants for us and from us.

We are seeking a priest-in-charge who will partner with our very active congregation, offering Christ-centred leadership and spiritual nourishment while fostering others’ contributions. The position is a 0.5FTE role. We pay an accommodation allowance as well as the other standard allowances.

Our congregation is a mix of young, middle-aged, and mature believers, keen to do all we can to share and spread the Good News. Some of us have lifelong connections with St Mark’s, others have joined the parish more recently. We are, however, all dedicated followers of Jesus seeking to further mature our faith. We’re supportive of one another and engaged in the wider community.

Over half of our regular Sunday morning attendees also attend one of our many home groups. We are fortunate to have a strong vestry, an active non-stipended priest, a very efficient administrator, and a committed team of volunteers who provide widespread practical and pastoral support.

Carterton is the service town for the mainly agricultural industries in the district. It also serves as a commuter hub for the city of Wellington, and so is growing steadily. It’s a small town with a strong sense of community and a warm welcome always for visitors. We have our own district council and an excellent events centre that attracts local and national shows. There’s good schooling (and early childhood education) here and in Greytown and Masterton (each about 15 minutes away), and plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family. It’s a great place to live.

We invite you to join us in serving this community. We look forward to exploring with you whether God is calling you to serve as our next leader, so that together and equipped by faith, we can truly serve Carterton. Further information, including our Parish Profile, is available on our website. You may also want to check out our Facebook page, and you are welcome to come visit us!

If you are sensing a call to be our next priest-in-Charge, please send a covering letter and CV to Paul Carey, Deacon for Administration, in the Bishop’s Office, paul@anglicanmovement.nz.
