Unleashing the Flow of Living Water:
Imagine a river, winding its way through valleys and plains, bringing life to everything it touches. The Whanganui awa embodies this vitality, symbolizing renewal and healing. But this isn't just a story about a river; it's a story of how the living water of Jesus can transform lives and communities.
Jesus: The Source of Living Water
Rev. Ana Fletcher's Chrism service talk beautifully described the profound symbolism of living water in scripture and called us to draw from Jesus to guide our ministry in unlikely places. Ana recalled Ezekiel's vision and the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River and highlighted Jesus as the ultimate source of this life-giving water.
"Jesus offers each of us living water that flows through every part of our being, turning everything that is salty, fresh." This living water heals, renews, and empowers us to be vessels for transformation in the world.
Community as Vessels of Living Water
Ana recalled journey the ministry journey her whānau had made in Whanganui. and how it exemplifies the power of community to channel the flow of living water into tangible acts of love and compassion. Through initiatives like planting a local faith community and partnering with Te Ora Hou, they created spaces for people like Jane to experience healing and belonging.
"Our time in Whanganui has been tied to a very small patch of whenua in Gonville - Tūtaramoana (where the awa meets the moana). It is the place where we have been invited by God to be vessels of Christ’s living water."
A Testament to Transformation
Ana tells the story of friendship to neighbour, Jane, and how it shows the transformative potential of living water unleashed through community. From a moment of crisis to finding safety and belonging within the faith community, Jane's journey reflects the nurturing and empowering nature of God's love. Being open to the invitations God offers us we find simple acts of kindness and hospitality can become channels for divine intervention.
"Living water for Jane has been a cup of tea offered by strangers as much as the body and blood of Christ offered at the Hākari Tapu."
