Shrove Tuesday FUN

Here are some photos showing how some of our communities gathered—and got creative—for Shrove Tuesday!

From Brooklyn to Newtown, parish kitchens were humming as neighbours came together for that wonderful pre-Lent mix of fellowship, food, and a healthy serving of maple syrup. Thank you to everyone who shared photos of the joy, connection, and occasional impressive pancake‑flipping technique on display.

One highlight came from St Michael and All Angels, Newlands–Papararangi, who didn’t let a little adversity get in the way of hospitality. After the roof of the local community centre was damaged in Sunday’s storm, the team pivoted beautifully—taking pancakes to the people with door‑to‑door deliveries throughout the neighbourhood. A perfect example of aroha in action.

We’ve included a few photos below to celebrate these moments of delight before we journey together into Lent.

Send Us Your Ash Wednesday Photos

Next week, we’d love to highlight Ash Wednesday (today) around the diocese. Whether it’s a quiet moment of reflection, a bustling service, or a creative community expression, we’d be grateful to share your images.

📸 Please send photos to: communications@anglicanmovement.nz

We’re looking forward to seeing how our churches mark the beginning of this sacred season.
