Restoring St Augustine’s Historic Church Building

St Augustine’s Church in Petone is blessed with a stunning Category 2 heritage building — the last wooden church designed by Diocesan Architect Frederick de Jersey Clere, and faithfully used by its community since its dedication in 1903.

Over summer, the church began a long‑awaited repaint. As work progressed, contractors uncovered significant areas of rotten timber, increasing the scope and cost of the project. To help cover these unexpected repairs, Parish Manager Fiona Roberton has set up a Givealittle page.

While the fundraising target is $25,000, Fiona says any contribution — big or small — makes a real difference.

“We always knew that to fund a project of this scale we’d need support from our wider community. Creating a Givealittle page allows us to share the story of St Augustine’s significant history while inviting people to partner with us.”
