Interfaith Commemoration Event remembers Christchurch attacks

One year after the attacks on the mosques in Christchurch, an interfaith memorial event was held at our Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, hosted by the United Nations Association of New Zealand.

The event aimed to bring people together in unity with all who mourn. As well as representatives of Jewish, Muslim, and Catholic communities, Bishop Eleanor spoke. The event was one of only a few to go ahead nationwide because of the threat of COVID-19.

Here is Bishop Eleanor’s prayer for the anniversary:

O God, who would fold both heaven and earth in a single peace:
Let the design of your great love
Lighten upon the waste ground of our anger and sorrow:
And give peace to all people,
Peace among nations,
Peace in our dwellings,
And peace in our hearts;
Through your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
