Sunday 15 September 2024
24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Taken from/inspired by Psalm 19, Proverbs 1:20-33, James 3:1-12, and Mark 8:27-38.
Bidding: Lord, hear us;
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
Gracious God,
Draw us into communal life;
the world isn’t ours to gain.
May we grow in love,
as we lay our lives down for you
and for others.
[silence]
Bidding: Lord, hear us;
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
Lord Jesus, enliven your church.
Call us to account;
tame our tongues
and teach us Wisdom;
strengthen us, your body,
to take up our crosses.
[silence]
Bidding: Lord, hear us;
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray for our world, your creation:
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
[Psalm 19:1-4]
Open our ears
to the voices of creation;
be with those facing disaster and injustice.
[silence]
Bidding: Lord, hear us;
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
[Psalm 19:14]
Amen.
