Andy Newport

A son of Anglican priests and missionaries, I am a husband to Cindy, a dad to our 7-year-old daughter Audrey, and a leader at Lyall Bay Community Church where I’ve served for the past 8 years as part of the replant team. Before joining Lyall Bay I was involved with Blueprint since its inception in 2004, and prior to that, I was part of St. Christopher’s in Tawa. My ministry centers around teaching and proclaiming the Word and leading spirit-filled musical worship in our mission unit. These outworkings are deeply influenced by our diocesan values, recognising our lineage and spiritual heritage, cultivating spiritual depth, and being a faithful steward of the church’s mission and the world around us.

My faith journey has been rooted in edge communities and church planting, where I’ve seen the transformative power of belonging and discipleship. This has made me a strong advocate for fostering meaningful relationships within the wider community, and passionate about building a just church—one that offers hospitality and care to all people, especially those on the margins.  I’m excited that the Anglican Church where I first came to faith in Jesus continues to be my place of belonging, embodying these values in its pursuit of justice and renewal.

The Ordination Service for Andy Newport will be on Saturday 23 November at 2 pm at Wellington Cathedral of St Paul.
