Growing in God with “My One Word”

If New Year’s resolutions don’t work for you, or you get overwhelmed or sidetracked easily, the "My One Word" approach to change and growth might be something for you: Choose a single word to represent an area of life in which you want to grow. Find a Bible verse to go with it. Then use this “One Word” as your focus for an entire year. Keep it present, and your One Word will help you hold that intentional space in which God can change your heart, mind, and life.

When you pick just One Word, you can do something about this one thing, instead of nothing about everything. Your One Word serves as a lens through which you see; it is not a promise you have to struggle to keep.

While this approach doesn't require community, it’s so much easier to stick with it when you don't have to do it all by yourself.

In our “My One Word” zoom meeting on the 2nd Friday of the month at 10AM, we meet for an hour and a half to touch base, encourage, and support each other.

Access by telephone: Wellington 04 886 0026; or Mobile: +6448860026.

www.myoneword.org has more information about the idea, how to pick your word, videos, and links to the book "My One Word" by Mike Ashcroft and Rachel Olsen.

The Wellington City Library has both the ebook and the audiobook available.

The group will be ongoing. Pick your One Word any time of the year, or come along for support to find your One Word. The group is open to anyone who is interested, not just Anglicans or people from our diocese. If you can think of someone who might benefit from or enjoy this, please invite them along!

About Rebecca Erlewein: I’ve been using One Word for seven years to help me grow as a person and in my faith. I love that it also gives me an easy way to talk about my growth and learning.

I hope to see you or hear from you on the call or via email: rebecca@erlewein.net
