Aligning with the Third Mark of Mission
"To respond to human need by loving service."
This ministry demonstrates being disciples who make disciples by mobilising extraordinary generosity from individuals, parish and mission units, and schools, extending the heart of the Gospel through practical, loving service to a marginalised group.
Acute Housing Shortage
The current unavailability of state (Kaianga Ora) and Council housing forces Red Cross to seek suitable properties in an overheated private market.
Volatility & Short Notice
Arrival dates and property details are often provided with a week's notice or less, demanding considerable patience and "pivoting ability" from supporting parishes. Volatility has led to some families failing to arrive altogether.
Successfully navigating these challenges requires flexibility and high levels of commitment from all involved.
Maintaining this mission as a key outworking of the Diocesan 'Just Church' branch and the Justice priority to respond in compassionate and generous ways to the growing global humanitarian crisis.
1. Ongoing Support
To seek, where appropriate and welcomed, to provide ongoing support for settling families beyond the initial house set-up phase.
2. Capacity Maintenance
To ensure we maintain the capacity as a Movement to meet the needs of those families for whom the Red Cross seeks our support.
Refugee support is central to our Synod priorities (Housing, Climate Change, Refugees).
