Wellington City Mission Lights up Christmas for Everyone

Christmas time is a joyful time for many of us, but it can also be a stressful one. Especially for those of us that don’t have certainty about where our next meal is coming from. With COVID-19 providing disruption to our lives – now more than ever – helping make someone's Christmas has become even more important.

We spoke to Rev Kath Bier at Wellington City Mission to find out how the Mission is making a difference in people’s lives this Christmas.

“Christmas at The Mission means everyone is included. That means we want everyone to be able to celebrate with their family and friends with good food and gift giving. We want everyone to enjoy that sense of peace and joy that Christmas time offers, and we want everyone to have a place of belonging. What excites me is knowing that our diocesan family want the same thing, because we simply can’t do this without you.”

This year, instead of being given a box of generic toys, the Toy Store is offering families the dignity of choice. Parents can choose a gift for their child, wrap it themselves and enjoy the experience of intentional gift giving on Christmas morning.

The Social Supermarket is continuing to offer families the dignity of choice. Families can choose the food they need to celebrate Christmas Time with their family and friends.

Kath sees God moving during this appeal through “His miraculous provision! And the way He so beautifully softens hearts and opens eyes.”
