This weekend marks a significant occasion for the Anglican Diocese of Wellington, as we gather for Synod 2024—a time of reflection, discussion, and decision-making for the future of our church. On behalf of Bishop Justin, Assistant Bishop Anashuya, and the Wellington Mission Units, we extend a very warm welcome to all Synod attendees.

Synod is not just a meeting; it is an opportunity to reconnect as the family of God, to share in fellowship, and to seek God’s guidance for the important decisions that shape the life and mission of our church.

The 62nd Synod begins on Saturday, 19 October with a pōwhiri at St Mary’s, Karori, led by Kura Moeahu of Taranaki Whānui ki te Upoko o te Ika, before diving into a full schedule of presentations, motions, and discussions. Key highlights include Bishop Justin’s Charge, updates on diocesan priorities such as governance and finance, as well as an opportunity to explore the Whanganui Anglicans’ generosity campaign with Rev. Caleb Rowe.

Sunday’s gathering will feature a visit and tour of Wellington City Mission’s Whakamaru project, and Assistant Bishop Anashuya’s Charge. Further discussion will be had on discipling communities and diocesan strategic priorities such as climate change, housing, and refugee care.
