God of Wonders at Wonderland Event

A stunning autumn day greeted those who attended a “Wonderland Easter” event on Saturday at Onslow Anglicans at St Barnabas, Khandallah.

Rev Bek Hickman, co-vicar of Onslow Anglicans says, “God’s wonderful love and beauty is revealed through creativity.

“When neighbourhoods gather to celebrate, that aroha love is further revealed through acts of hospitality and kindness.

Peter Haw lives locally and spent most of his time chatting, “I’m meeting neighbours that I hadn’t talked with before.”

Rev Bek told how Onslow Anglicans seek to be local.

“Being ‘present’ here in Khandallah means that relational networks are formed and conversations about faith in our wonderful God begin to happen,” she said.

A huge number of families turned up over the afternoon to participate in a variety of Alice In Wonderland-themed activities.

They included an Easter scavenger hunt, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Photobooth at the Red Queen’s throne, giant tea-bag toss, flamingo croquet, and tours of the fairy garden.

The bunny petting zoo was also hugely popular.

It was the first time for a group of five friends (all aged 11) to visit St Barnabas church. “We came because our friend invited our whole class. We loved the scavenger hunt inside the church building, oh and the chocolate!” they said.

Onslow Anglicans will host a Good Friday service at 7 pm this coming Friday.
