Gathering as Whānau at Kairos Training Day

Events Manager, Reverend Richard Apperley reflects on the amazing time at Kairos Training Day last Sunday.

It was such a blessing to gather as whānau at our Kairos events in Whanganui and Masterton.

At our Diocesan events, we pride ourselves on generous hospitality - so we started the day with lunch as people arrived from their local church services. We enjoyed a phenomenal spread in Masterton and a BBQ and woodfired pizzas in Whanganui. One person commented that pizzas cooked by the Archbishop were particularly special!

The whole day felt like a family affair - and we are so grateful to our local hosts - Billy and Caleb Rowe in Whanganui, and Wendy Scott and Mannie Marara in Masterton - for all they did to make the day work so smoothly.

As we gathered we were expectant that the Spirit would speak to us - and we were ready to respond with courage.

There was a great spread of workshops on offer, covering theology, children’s ministry, hospitality, prayer, and deepening our understanding of being intercultural communities and exploring our bicultural journey.

As we closed the day we worked through a Kairos circle together - identifying what God was saying to us, and what we were going to do in response. From the feedback we’ve received people left feeling challenged, hopeful, and expectant. What a gift!
